| Ryokan (1217-1303) (Ninsho Ryokan) - Hojo beneficiary - Nichiren Daishonin sent him letters of remonstration and challenged him to pray for rain. - Ryokan and Doryu plotted against Daishonin, which resulted in Daishonin's near decapitation and eventual exile to Sado Island |
| Ippen (1239-1289) (Ippen Chisin) - Founder of the Ji sect of Nembustu. Believers chant the name of Amida Buddha. - Traveled throughout Japan, and was noted for his easy to understand teachings |
| Doryu (1213-1278) (Doryu Rankei) - Chinese Zen master - Founding priest of Kencho-ji temple in Kamakura at the request of of Hojo Tokiyori - Nichiren Daishonin sent him letters of remonstration, warning of impending peril for nation due to belief in false religions |
