| Hos-sui is the term for Living Essence of the true Buddha. Ho = Law = Namu-myoho-renge-kyo. Sui = water. Shabyo is the term for pure lineage. Sha = to put in. Byo = container Hos-sui Shabyo appears in the third prayer of Gongyo, the prayer for the Three Treasures "Namu, Hos-sui Shabyo Yuigayoga...." Yuigayoga = same heart as Buddha |

| This means that the water of the Law of Namu-myoho-renge-kyo is expressed, or squeezed, and what results is the pure essence of Namu-myoho-renge-kyo, which is then transferred to a container. The container represents the person who has the same heart as the Buddha and therefore understands the Buddha's true teachings. This person is Nikko Shonin. Nikko Shonin was the only disciple who had the same heart and mind as the Daishonin and truly understood his teachings. |
